Background: Wetness sensation during pregnancy can be caused by either or a combination of spontaneous rupture of membranes, urinary incontinence, and increased normal vaginal secretion. At least 30-40% of women experience some degree of urinary leakage during pregnancy. This number is increased with gestational age of pregnancy. In approximately 10% of pregnancies at term the fetal membranes rupture before labor begins. This leakage, if not detected early, may lead to further complications, as it may hamper the growth of the fetus and may cause bacterial infection to spread from the vagina to the uterus and consequently to the fetus. All the methods for amniotic fluid detection are a momentary methods and may misdiagnose non-continuous amniotic fluid leaks. The new method: The AmnioCheck is designed to detect minute leakage of amniotic fluid and helps in differential diagnosis from other wetness, mainly urinary incontinence and vaginal discharge. The AmnioCheck detection panty liner is specific to vaginal fluid, and if contaminated with urine, in the range of pH 4.0-7.0, will not give a positive result. This panty liner monitors amniotic fluid leaks continuously, a feature not offered by any other methods. Performance: the AmnioCheck Sensitivity, Specificity, PPV, and NPV are 95.76%, 86.81%, 89.3%, and 94.7%, respectively. Conclusion: AmnioCheck’s ability to detect even minimal amniotic fluid volumes over a prolonged period of time, may assist in avoiding missing / not diagnosing amniotic fluid leakage and prevents sending the woman with amniotic fluid leakage home. AmnioCheck provides higher standard of care while minimising the risk of releasing pregnant women with minute amniotic leakage. Moreover, AmnioCheck enable pregnant women to maintain continues monitoring process at home setting thereafter.
